We have successfully conducted a unique webinar in India – focusing on the medical and dental care of para and special needs athletes. Dr Harini Muralidharan, a Sports Medicine Physician and Dr Sham S Bhat, a senior Pediatric and Special Care Dentist enlightened the audience about finer nuances about the general and oral health of these athletes who fight against all odds and participate in sports and some of them also go ahead and win for the country. Looking at the high medal tally of India at the International Paralympic games, it is time that along with other health aspects, oral care issues of these athletes need to be resolved as well to give them a better quality of life! NSDC, along with other healthcare providers, plans to do exactly this and webinars like these are just a beginning of what is going to come in the future! Both Dr Harini and Dr Sham are National advisory board members of NSDC and we look forward for guidance from such people with experience in dealing with healthcare aspects of para and special need athletes.
