17th October 2023 – Announcement of NSDC

In 2020, Academy of Sports Dentistry (ASD), USA and European Association of Sports Dentistry (EA4SD) along with European College of Sports and Exercise Physicians (ECOSEP) released a consensus statement that IT IS NECESSARY TO INTEGRATE SPORTS DENTISTRY INTO SPORTS MEDICINE.

Keeping this in mind, on occasion of World Trauma Day on 17th October, we announced the formation of the National Sports Dentistry Committee (NSDC) under the Indian Society of Sports and Exercise Medicine (ISSEM). ISSEM is a national-level registered society for Sports & Exercise Medicine. NSDC plans to conduct all activities and events with aims and objectives in sync with ISSEM.

3rd December 2023 – Online Inauguration of NSDC

NSDC had its online inauguration program on 3rd December 2023 wherein registration was free but mandatory. We received an overwhelming response with 150 registrations in just 2 weeks. The Chief Guest for the program was Dr. Shobha Tandon, Senior Pediatric Dentist and Author and Guest of Honour was Dr. Kiran Kulkarni, Senior Sports Medicine Physician and Chairman of AIFF Medical Committee. We received congratulatory videos from many senior dentists and sports healthcare professionals for taking this unique initiative. And the highlight of the Program was that we had invited a Star Speaker Dr. Steve Mills, Fellow Academy of Sports Dentistry, USA. Considering his vast experience in sports dentistry, he spoke on the topic “Sports Dentistry: an overview of 30yrs”. The Core team had worked hard and the entire 2hour event was smooth flowing. We gained good insights from Dr. Steve’s lecture as to how sports dentistry developed in the USA and what can be done in India. Both the Chief Guest and the Guest of Honour applauded our efforts and congratulated us and wished us best for future endeavours. In all, the program was a great success!
