NSDC as Dental Partners for various state sports events in Pune – Feb 2025

NSDC represented as Dental Partners for 2 state level events at Balewadi stadium in Pune during February 2025, reinforcing their commitment to athlete oral health. One event was the Karate Do-Republic Maharashtra Championship event and the other was the 5th Maharashtra State Taekwondo Championship. The key takeaways of these events was that:

1.Many young & adolescent athletes required dental and orthodontic treatments.

2.Some athletes still weren’t using mouthguards, leading to avoidable injuries.

3.Educating athletes and emphasizing the importance of quality of mouthguards was necessary. Once the athletes are well-informed, they show greater interest in using and making informed choice about choosing mouthguards.

NSDC plans to be part of many such big and small events to create more and more awareness among the athletes, coaches and sports administrators regarding oral healthcare for athletes, dental injury prevention and emergency dental injury management. Infact, the NSDC team did witness and had to manage 2 or 3 athletes who got injured on their lips/chin inspite of them having a mouthguard but not using them. It stressed the fact that it’s necessary to convince athletes to use customized mouthguards as they are more comfortable while playing so it will increase the chances of athletes to wear the mouthguards during playing and likewise increase chances of teeth protection and preventing injuries which is the ultimate aim of NSDC!
